About

The Bait Fridge is a performance collective based on Kaurna Country in South Australia. The group consists of a core team of ten visual artists and musicians, alongside a rotating network of collaborators who join at different times.

Formed in 2015, the collective originally emerged from a group of artists experimenting with performative painting — using unconventional tools such as catapults and leaf blowers to paint one another. Since then, The Bait Fridge has worked under a shared creative vision, producing improvisational and often absurdist performances in public spaces. Their work reflects Fluxus-inspired ideas that emphasize process over outcome and make use of recycled and found materials.

Through multidisciplinary performance experiences, the collective aims to express these values and engage diverse audiences. Their performances have appeared in an array of venues and contexts — from shopping centers and private celebrations to galleries, showgrounds, skate parks, and beaches.
